Dynamics of a Stochastic Functional System for Wastewater Treatment

    Get PDF
The dynamics of a delayed stochastic model simulating wastewater treatment process are studied. We assume that there are stochastic fluctuations in the concentrations of the nutrient and microbes around a steady state, and introduce two distributed delays to the model describing, respectively, the times involved in nutrient recycling and the bacterial reproduction response to nutrient uptake. By constructing Lyapunov functionals, sufficient conditions for the stochastic stability of its positive equilibrium are obtained. The combined effects of the stochastic fluctuations and delays are displayed

Periodic Oscillations in a Chemostat Model with Two Discrete Delays

    Get PDF
Periodic oscillations of solutions of a chemostat-type model in which a species feeds on a limiting nutrient are considered. The model incorporates two discrete delays representing the lag in nutrient recycling and nutrient conversion. Through the study of characteristic equation associated with the linearized system, a unique positive equilibrium is found and proved to be locally asymptotically stable under some conditions. Meanwhile, a Hopf bifurcation causing periodic solutions is also obtained. Numerical simulations illustrate the theoretical results

A comparative study on design and performance evaluation of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) under different two-phase heat transfer correlations

    Get PDF
Organic Rankine cycle (ORC) is considered to be a good solution to the high-efficient recovery of low-grade heat for saving energy and reducing carbon emissions. As the core component, the heat exchanger plays a significant role in the thermo-economic performance evaluation of an ORC plant and its heat transfer correlations greatly influence the cycle performance. In this paper, 8 two-phase heat transfer correlations (4 flow boiling ones and 4 flow condensation ones) are utilized to design the plate-type heat exchangers, and a comparative study among different correlations is carried out. The result shows the designed evaporators are finitely affected by heat transfer correlations whereas the situation with the designed condensers is the opposite. The net output power is slightly influenced with a relative difference within 1.1% but the system's economic performance is significantly affected with the maximum relative difference of electricity production cost up to 11.2%. The environmental performance is hardly affected by correlations with the maximum relative difference of total greenhouse gas emission within 0.96%. This paper analyzed the performance variation of the ORC under different correlations and provided a guideline for designing heat exchangers and evaluating the off-design performance of ORC systems

Abstract Background Breast cancer (BC) is a common threat to women. The continuous activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway contributes to the development of BC. This study aimed to investigate the role of a circular RNA (circRNF10) in BC progression and regulating NF-κB signaling pathway. Methods Bioinformatics analysis, RT-qPCR, subcellular fractionation, FISH, RNase R treatment, and actinomycin D assay were used to explore the expression and characteristics of circRNF10 in BC. The biological functions of circRNF10 in BC were analyzed by MTT assay, colony formation assay, wound healing assay, and Transwell assay. RNA pulldown and RIP assay were used to identify the interaction between circRNF10 and DEAH (Asp-Glu-Ala-His) box helicase 15 (DHX15). The impact of circRNF10-DHX15 interaction on NF-κB signaling pathway was explored by western blot, IF, and co-IP. Furthermore, dual-luciferase reporter assay, ChIP, and EMSA were performed to assess the effect of NF-κB p65 on DHX15 transcription. Results CircRNF10 was downregulated in BC, and lower expression of circRNF10 was related to poor prognosis of patients with BC. CircRNF10 inhibited the proliferation and migration of BC. Mechanically, circRNF10-DHX15 interaction sequestered DHX15 from NF-κB p65, thereby inhibiting the activation of NF-κB signaling pathway. On the other hand, NF-κB p65 enhanced DHX15 transcription by binding to the promoter of DHX15. Altogether, circRNF10 impaired the DHX15-NF-κB p65 positive feedback loop and suppressed the progression of BC. Conclusion CircRNF10-DHX15 interaction suppressed the DHX15-NF-κB p65 positive feedback loop, thereby inhibiting BC progression. These findings provide new insights in the continuous activation of NF-κB signaling pathway and raised potential therapeutic approach for BC treatment
